Hucknall climbing wall

On a balmy evening 18 swimmers - 10 girls and 8 boys - made their way to Hucknall Leisure centre to take part in a fiercely competitive gala. Over the course of 2 hours there were 9 PB’s, 3 NT’s and 18 swimmers showing true team spirit and determination to do their best.

Michael started off the gala for Portland with the 15u 100m IM and in spectacular form shaved nearly 2 seconds off his PB. He followed on from this with 2nd place in the 15u 100m breaststroke, a tight 4th place in the 15u 100m Backstroke and 3rd place with a new PB in the 15u 100m freestyle!

Rebecca cruised to victory (led from the start) in the 15u 100m IM and achieved a new PB! In an extremely competitive Open 100m Freestyle Rebecca achieved 3rd position and she finished off a successful evening with 4th place in the Open 100m Backstroke.

Stanley swam 3 strong races; 13u 100m Backstroke, 15u 50m Butterfly and 13u 100m Freestyle where he shaved off nearly a second to achieve a new PB. Fantastic!

Beatrice swam in the 13u 100m Backstroke and swam up in the 15u 100m Freestyle! Both were strong swims and just outside her PB’s. Well done!

Connor placed 3rd in the Open 100m butterfly and just missed out on 3rd in a very tight Open 100m Backstroke. Connor also offered plenty of advice to the younger swimmers.

Lucy recorded a New Time in the Open 100m Butterfly, a formidable swim – the photo (climbing wall in the park next to the leisure centre) is for you Lucy for your go-get attitude: `Impossible is nothing!' She then swam a superb last leg of the 15u/open relay to help her team achieve 2nd place.

Lucian swam a superb 11u 50m Backstroke and achieved a new PB, shaving off nearly 5 seconds!! He followed this with the 11u 50m Freestyle with another new PB!! What a great evening.

Angelina put in a plucky performance, powering through the 11u Backstroke with determination, despite backstroke being far from her favourite.

Esther had a very busy evening, competing in the 15u 100m Breaststroke, 15u 50m Butterfly and 15u 100m Freestyle. The highlight was the 100m Breaststroke with an excellent 2nd place. Congratulations.

Gaby had a very successful evening with 3rd place in the 13u 50m Butterfly, a new PB in the 13u 100m IM (just over 2 seconds!) and a New Time and 3rd place in the 13u 100m Freestyle.

Andrew had a run of third place in all 3 of his races! These were the Open 100m IM, Open 100m Freestyle and Open 100m Breaststroke. What consistent swimming!

Emma produced two solid swims in the Open 100m IM and the Open 100m Breaststroke as well as lots of helpful advice and encouragement to all the swimmers.

Raj swam a new PB for 11u 50m Breaststroke (over 3 seconds!) as well as coming 3rd and had a New Time for his 11u 50m Butterfly. Super swimming!

Fran swam the 11u 50m Breaststroke and achieved a new PB! Well done Fran.

Ned achieved a New Time in the 13u 100m Breaststroke in an extremely competitive field and swam twice in the cannon in order for a team to be fielded. Great team player!

Bethan swam brilliantly and was just outside of her PB in the 13u 100m Breaststroke and narrowly missed out on 3rd place in a very close race!

Alice swam in the 11u 50m Freestyle and smashed her PB yet again with a fantastic swim. Well done!

Dan swam a superb 13u 100m IM and knocked nearly 13 seconds off his previous PB! Like Ned, Dan swam twice in the Cannon.

Thank you to all our swimmers for a wonderful evening!
