Chesterfield Summer Splash, 15th July

0

Venue – Chesterfield

Date – Sunday 15th July 2012

This one was the finale for the swimming season and a chance to show that the season’s training has really paid off.  We had a small (but beautifully formed) Portland team, especially on Saturday when Jade alone flew the flag for the first time for Portland and came away with a fine collection of medals!
It was an early start but the theme of the day seemed to be the girls swimming against each other in the same heats – Jaime and Alice in the 100m breaststroke, Jaime, Alice and Jade in the 200m backstroke, followed in the next heat by Holly and Olivia.
There were some excellent swims in the morning with lots of PBs  but special mentions for a huge 36 seconds for Alice in the 400m freestyle, with  6 and 5 seconds respectively for Holly and Olivia in the 200m backstroke.  Well done for all the PBs, even if they weren’t quite 36 seconds…!
On to the afternoon and the arrival of the boys team – Mikey!  Kathy joined the girls and on the agenda were the 200m breaststoke and 200m free for Mikey, the 200m IM, 100 free and 50m breaststroke for the girls.
Another collection of PBs to go home with but the afternoon’s special mentions go to Kathy for knocking another 2 seconds off her 200m IM just a week after a 4 second PB; Jaime and Olivia for another tough head-to-head in the 100m free; Holly for her first time 200m IM swim.
Finally, huge congratulations to Mikey for achieving an (at last) official 200m breaststroke Midland time and being just 1 second off the 200m free time.
What a great day’s work from all our swimmers – well done one and all.
Thanks Grant for poolside support.
