Venue – Lamas Leisure Centre, Sutton-in-Ashfield
Date – Saturday 22nd September 2012
On a night when the blocks weren’t safe to dive from and the big guns were out for their trophy, we were definitely up against it. However, in true Portland style, our team captain (Rebecca) flew the flat commendably all the way down her left leg to show the noisy crowd from Bramcote that, if we can’t beat you, we’ll join you!
With starts from the side rather than the blocks, this was never going to be a night of PBs, although it was not without so well done swimmers.
Special mentions:
- Ben Hardy’s 100m backstroke 3rd place once again showing that his hard work in training is paying off across his strokes.
- Edward Roberts for another fabulous 50m breaststroke and 2nd place.
- Alice Mulligan for a storming 50m breaststroke and a valuable 3rd place.
- Jack Harmer for 4 Open swims, including a 2nd place in the 100m backstroke, as well as 2 x 15/u swims resulting in 1st places – remember Jack is still just 13 years old!
- Emma Horne for 2 Open swims, including an exhausting 100m butterfly earning us much-needed points.
- Esther Simmons for an outstanding 100m Breastroke, enormous PB and only 2 seconds of a count time without blocks! A fabulous swim.
- Cecily Kay for persevering and finally getting that freestyle start sorted – and for always smiling.
- Well done team – another 5th place in a challenging league and against some very excited and noisy opponents who deserved their overall win. We can certainly hold our heads up high here and look forward to the next series with more fabulous results.
Thanks as always to poolside helpers and backroom staff.
