The half term destination for the gala team was Sutton-in-Ashfield on Saturday night 19th October and a great time was had by all. Arriving in the pouring rain certainly didn’t dampen team spirits.
The evening had more sparkle than Strictly; we were definitely top of the leader board for team spirit and only minor goggle disaaaaster darling for Gaby and Stanley. There were four PBs, four new times set and one county time.
The PBs went to Rebecca for her 100m IM giving her a new PB of 1:20.21, Raj for his 50m breaststroke giving him a new PB of 55.99, Lucy for her 100m freestyle giving her a new PB of 1:24.90 and Dom for his 100m breaststroke who now has a PB of 1:20.51. New times were set by Michael for his 100m IM and two new times were set by Molly for her 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke.
A few special mentions ….
Well done to our first-timers Gaby, Euan and Lewis who all had great first gala swims.
Edward for a super swim in the 100m freestyle.
Euan, Ruby, Raj, Zara and Lewis for the determination in their relay races.
Archie for his fantastic finish in the 100m backstroke.
Lucy who took an amazing 12 seconds off her PB for 100m freestyle!!
Dom who managed to get from poolside to his swims and back again faster than you can say “where are my goggles?”
And last but most certainly not least, Gaby for the swim of the night for her 50m butterfly and earning herself a PB 4.5 seconds inside a county time!!!!!!!!!!!
And finally …. the Cannon; best ever result of 3rd place!
Portland finished 5th overall. Well done team Portland for your effervescing effort in this challenging league. Fab-u-lous.
A big thank you to the poolside team, the cheering spectators and to all the swimmers for giving it their all on the night, including Olivia, Andrew, Stanley, Cecily, Connor, Esther, Jaime, Emma and Grace.
