Molly, Emma and Rebecca P made a flying start to the Youth County Championships (for swimmers aged 15 years and over) at Beechdale Swimming Centre on Saturday 15 February in the morning’s 50m butterfly heats.
In the afternoon, Emma swam 100m breaststroke, qualifying for the Final (6th place finish); Connor added another fastest time to his long string of PBs, this time in the 50m backstroke; and the three who kicked off Portland’s Championships ended Day 1 with exciting 50m freestyle races – Molly knocking almost a second off her time(!), Rebecca achieving a season’s best and Emma with a PB. A good day for all!
On Day 2 Emma qualified 5th in the heats for the 50m breaststroke Final, PB-ing to finish 4th in the Final and, though tired for the 200m breaststroke, went home satisfied in the knowledge that she was the fastest 15 year old 50m breaststroker of the Championships.
Connor swam an absolutely thrilling 50m freestyle to achieve a long held ambition – to go under 30 seconds – FANTASTIC and well deserved PB Connor!
What marvellous role models our older swimmers are for younger Portland swimmers – we can’t wait for the Age Group Counties in March!
