Youth Counties 2014‘Oh, what a night!’ Not only in the Bramcote Leisure Centre pool but around it too, a very slick event run by … oh, Portland Swimming Club! Big thanks to the ‘team behind the scenes’ who helped to make this an extremely smoothly-run event and also to all the representatives from other clubs who helped out enormously on the night and leading up to it.

So outside the pool was a success, what about in the pool? How does 19 PBs and a 3rd place overall sound? Congratulations to all the swimmers – Connor, Rebecca, Michael, Olivia, Dan, Molly, Ben, Zara, Dylan, Ruby, Stanley, Cecily, Edward, Esther, Jaime, Emma, Raj, Beatrice, Dom, Sam, Bethan, Kathy – whether you got PBs on the night or not you were all truly awesome.

PBs for Connor (100m IM, 50m fly, 100m freestyle); Rebecca (100m IM); Olivia (100m backstroke); Cecily (50m backstroke); Edward (100m breaststroke); Emma (100m IM, 100m breaststroke); Raj (50m breaststroke); Beatrice (50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle); Michael (100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle); Dom (100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke); Sam (100m IM); Kathy (100m backstroke) and a Portland PB for Dan (100m backstroke).

Special mentions:

Connor – just 2 words to say about you: `On fire!!’ An amazing opening to the gala with a huge 4 second PB which set the tone for the night and started his hat trick of PBs.

Beatrice – for a massive 8 seconds off her 50m breaststroke! Can you do that every time, Beatrice?!

Sam – for 5 seconds off a gruelling 100m IM.

Olivia – a 3 second PB and a smile as wide as Dad’s!

Kathy – for standing in at the last minute, swimming her least favourite stroke, gaining important points for the Club and a 3 second PB!

Jaime – for a masterclass in fly once again and first place.

Emma – for crawling off her sick bed and posting 2 PBs! Stay in bed a bit more Emma…

The 9/u relay team (Dylan, Ruby, Ben, Zara) – for demonstrating what they learned recently with some super dives and takeovers.

Tim and Louis – for being so flexible as the jobs they were doing changed from minute to minute! Especially Louis who wasn’t swimming, then was swimming, then wasn’t swimming …

3rd overall and the relay performances in particular really showed how far our swimmers have come this season – long may it continue. Be proud swimmers, be very proud …
