It was no holds barred at Club Champs on Saturday 18 October.
Portland swimmers put their all into every race and parents sweated it out at the sauna that is Bramcote swimming pool.
Mighty power sprinting generated moments of worry over suspected broken fingers on butterfly, head injuries on backstroke and hot flushes in the stands; but on the swimmers swam. And did they swim!
153 PBs, 52 New Times, 3 new County Times and, wait for it, Club Records were broken a total of 24 times!
The 153 PBs represented over 14 minutes in improvements. Compared to last year’s Club Champs (like for like swims) the swimmers who took part this year were 21.3 minutes faster in total!
Having booked extra pool-time to complete the many swims, we were still worried about running over the allotted time. However, thanks to the slick operation by the organisers and helpers on the night, we managed to squeeze in a fun Cannon Relay at the end – thanks Connor for organising.
Fortunately, there were no serious injuries during the evening, other than some well-chewed fingers from the multitude of exciting, nail-biting finishes.
Impressive swims and super-strong last lengths combined to make the event a showcase for Portland’s talent.
Well done swimmers – you were fantastic!
`Thank you!’ to all the coaches, team managers and parent helpers who did such a good job. A special big thanks goes to Dom for the hours spent entering swimmers’ details, updating information and providing all the statistics. You are our swim guru!
Results will be unveiled during the Annual Awards and Party Night at Edwalton Golf Club on Friday 28 November, when lots of certificates and trophies will be given out and a good ol’ knees-up will be had.
Watch out for more details in the coming weeks!
