So it was the night after the night before … were there a few cobwebs to be blown away? Or would it be yet another sterling performance?
Well, I think 16PBs, 3 New Times and 13 1st and 2nd places probably answer that question!
PBs for: Gen (50m backstroke); Michael P (50m backstroke); Phoebe (50m breastroke); Ned (50m breaststroke & 50m backstroke); Alice (25m backstroke – new time); Sam (50m breaststroke & 50m freestyle); Angelina G (25m freestyle & 25m breaststroke – new time); Maddie (50m fly); Dylan (25m breaststroke – new time & 25m fly); Mia (50m freestyle); Hannah (50m fly); Michael T (50m fly).
Special mentions for:
- The Girls 10/U relay team of Angelina, Alice, Mai & Dominique for kick starting the evening with a fabulous 1st place!
- Ned on his first gala for Portland, overcoming nerves to give 2 fabulous individual performances and 3 great relay legs, even swimming up an age group!
- Gen for swimming 2 years above her age group in the 50m backstroke – not that you would have realised!
- Maddie for a brilliant 50m butterfly, even though she was ‘dreading it’!
- Dylan for fabulous underwater work in the 25m backstroke.
- Ella and Michael (P) for not breathing AT ALL for their freestyle relay legs – Ella you are a pro, thank you Connor for the threats which finally made Mikey do it!
- Kathy for starting a roll of 1st places and showing that experience counts with a brilliantly cool, calm and collected 50m breaststroke – despite the attempt by a certain other swimmer to ‘psyche you out’!
- Andrew, Angelina G and Stanley for continuing the roll with another 3 classy 1st places.
- Connor for being the natural Club Captain that he is and speaking to every swimmer before their race.
- Swims of the evening to Alice who, despite losing her goggles in the very first event, put it behind her, tightened them up (thanks Dad!) and showed us all what a classy swimmer she is in all 3 strokes she swam.
All in all Portland showed the swimming fraternity that we can party and swim with the best!
Thank you as always to all the help on poolside and behind the scenes.
