It was `Go! Go! Go!’ from the outset at this first JC Dobb gala of the Spring season, as parents joined the poolside team (THANK YOU!) and the 10/U freestyle relay girls (Chelsea, Angelina G, Ruby and Alice) jetted off to a 2nd place finish and fabulous five points for the Portland team!
Lammas Leisure Centre was the venue this Saturday evening for some great New Times (NTs), Personal Bests (PBs), top placings and really good swims. Read on for the rundown …
Angelina D – 50m backstroke PB and a great 2nd place in 50m freestyle.
Chelsea – 25m backstroke NT.
Liam – 25m backstroke NT.
Fraser – 25m freestyle NT and backstroker for the 10/U Medley team which came in 3rd.
Finlay, Fran, Gabriel, Grace and Luke sprinted their freestyle best, swimming up in older age group relay teams.
Freya hit the board in 3rd, as the anchor leg of the 12/U freestyle relay, following team members Fran, Isabella and Angelina G.
Edward – 50m breaststroke PB (surpassing the one he set one week previously at the Winter Gala!).
Angelina G – was too fast for the swimmers she was up against and the competition cut-off times, so got a Speeding Ticket for her 25m freestyle!
Spurred on, the 14/U Mixed Medley Relay team (Angelina D, Edward, Bethan and Sam) also won a badge of honour Speeding Ticket, touching 3 seconds ahead of the rest of the field!
Andrew took 1st in 50m of brilliant breaststroke.
A few events later, Connor was the next swimmer to take 1st in 50m freestyle and came 2nd in the last of the gala’s individual races, 50m backstroke.
Immediately after Connor’s freestyle win, Bethan despatched the opposition with her 1st place and new Personal Best time in 50m butterfly.
Sam completed the hat-trick of consecutive firsts, setting a new PB in his 50m fly too.
Isabella knocked 3 seconds off her former fastest 50m backstroke time.
There then ensued two minutes of pure power by swimmers and exhilaration for spectators:
- The Girls Open Freestyle Relay-ers stormed to 1st place – a team of sisters, Maddie and Hannah, Esther and Bethan (who had only just turned 13 the week before!).
- Dan, Connor, Andrew and Michael T stepped up for the Boys, dived in and swam their flippers off. They may have managed to beat the Girls’ time but they didn’t beat the place! An admirable 2nd place was gained!
Alice took up the gauntlet, accomplished a great New Time and impressive 2nd in 25m breaststroke.
Ruby flew to a PB in 25m butterfly.
Dylan set a new PB in the same event and claimed 2nd place, in style.
The evening concluded as it began with an extremely exciting 2nd place relay race – yes, 2nd in the Cannon! Fantastic!
Thanks to all the swimmers and thank-you to all helpers – we really couldn’t do it without you!
