What a night

As the evening went on it got hotter; the Events Programme had two uses – a fan to cool us all down, as well as a guide to which swim was next.

As usual, the first few minutes were taken up with swimmers trying to tell their parents which events they would be participating in, leaving parents to look on confused. (Who thought signing numbers would be so hard?!).

All in all it was a fab night for our swimmers – there were 18 PB’s and 3 new times.

Michael started off the gala for Portland with the 15/u 100m IM, which resulted in a new PB. He then swam the 100m breaststroke in which again he achieved a new PB.

Stanley swam really well in all three of his races, he got PB’s in 100m backstroke and 50m fly.

Beatrice had great swims, two of which resulted in PB’s: 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle (by 5s!).

Raj swam 50m breaststroke and in 50m backstroke (not his favourite) he PB’d.

Alice achieved a PB in 50m backstroke and came in 3rd place in 50m freestyle.

Gaby had two fab swims: 50m fly with a new PB in and 100m IM in which she came 2nd place and got a 2 second PB!

Conner achieved PB’s in both 100m IM and 100m open breaststroke. He also spent time giving advice and encouraging the younger swimmers. Thank you Captain.

Anna did really well to achieve a 2 second PB in 50m breaststroke despite losing her goggles part way through her swim. Well done Anna!

Austin swam 100m breaststroke and now has a new PB over 16 seconds faster than his old time!

Angelina swam the 13/u 100m breaststroke and PB’d in 100m freestyle.

Edward achieved a new PB in the 15/u 100m freestyle and came 2nd in 100m backstroke.

Ben swam 50m freestyle and got a PB in 50m butterfly.

Dan set himself a new time in the 13/u 100m freestyle.

Tarun also set a new time in the open 100m freestyle.

Kathy has a new PB (by 2s) in the 100m open breaststroke and set a new time in 100m freestyle.

Dominique and Dahlia gave it their all in some hard fought events and there were some notable relay performances by Liam and Liesje.

Well done to all swimmers! You all did great on Saturday, were of impeccable behaviour and, yes, vast quantities of sweets were consumed as always! At one point it looked like you were at a picnic(!), but it’s always nice to see the swimmers getting along and supporting each other during their races.

Well done to Judd for competing in his first gala. He did incredibly well and had a smile on his face all evening – what a star. Thanks to Stanley for guiding him through all things gala!

Also a big `THANK YOU!’ to Esther for stepping in as a few last minute changes were made on the night, taking on an additional event – her least favourite stroke (and that’s an understatement!) – backstroke, all 100 metres of it, to add to team points. Thank you.

A final, huge `THANK YOU!’ to all the parents who helped run the whole thing – it was our Club’s turn to host. Many of the helpers were performing roles for the first time and did a fantastic job. We really couldn’t have done it without you! Many, many thanks.
