underwater-entryWith personal bests for Angelina (x2), Connor (x2), Luke (x2), Mai (x2), Briony (x1), Archie (x1), Efan (x1), Lucy (x1), Isabelle (x1), Olivia (x1), Freya (x1), Gabriel (x1), Liam (x1), and Edward (x1), there was no shortage of effort and achievement over the 48 races.

An impressive first gala for Rose had her finish 4th in the 25m backstroke, with her bravely taking on leg-one of the final race of the day in the 10×1 cannon relay. This was a confident competitive swimming debut.

There were consistently strong swims for co-Captains Connor – including a powerful 2nd leg in the 4×1 medley relay, plus a hard fought 2nd in the 50m breaststroke – and Emma taking 1st in the 50m breaststroke. It was evident that both Captains were leading by example dispensing sound advice and encouragement to the team overall, but more importantly to the younger and newer members of Portland SC.

Great races for Mai and Olivia – winning the 25m and 50m freestyle events accordingly – were complemented by a terrific 4×1 freestyle relay in which Dan, Archie, Luke, and Gabriel took a well fought 2nd. Dan also swam confidently in both the U-12 and U-14 4×1 medley relays.

With spirited performances by Luke – in a tough field for the 50m fly – and Tarun in the 50m freestyle, Emma, Rebecca, Angelina, and Olivia streaked to victory in their 4×1 freestyle relay. Rebecca also put in a shift swimming the first leg of the 4×1 medley (2nd place finish overall), as well as taking 2nd in a hard-fought 50m backstroke.

This was an accomplished team performance showcasing an evidently talented, highly-motivated group of young swimmers. All members of Portland SC rallied to support one another; a testament to both the ethos of the club, and the quality of the teaching the pupils receive. Well done all, and here’s to the next Gala event.
