Finally summertime has arrived and it was a light sunny start to the JC Dobb Gala in Hucknall. The night was enjoyed by swimmers and spectators alike and was smoothly hosted by Portland.
In total we collected 17 PBs (these were reflected in a few speeding tickets!) and 13 first positions. Our overall position was 5th.
Welcome to our swimmers, Zoe, Adam and Harrison, who experienced their first league gala and swam really well. All were in the 10/Us with Harrison swimming up as well. There were some great swims and PBs in that age group for Alessia (2nd place as well as a PB in 25m backstroke), Charlotte (3 second PB in 25m fly) and Efan (2s PB & 1st place in 25m fly!). Adam set a new time for 25m back and touched 1st on his debut! Matthew and Rose had a full night swimming in both relays and individual races.
In the U12s Alice and Angelina G did a sterling job, rarely out of the water (and only one set of goggles lost mid race this time!). Dylan and Ben both got PBs (in 50 back and 50 free). Raj secured an impressive 1st place and PB for 50 breaststroke, knocking almost 3 seconds off his previous PB so no surprises with a speeding ticket! Thanks to Alessia and Charlotte for swimming up in the freestyle relay.
5PBs were collected in the 14/Us by Dan (free), Ned (fly), Stanley (back and breaststroke) and Briony (breaststroke). The girls relay (Briony, Angelina D, Bethan & Gaby) placed an impressive 1st and the boys an equally impressive 2nd. Gabriel swam up to the 14/u in this relay.
In the Open class we collected a haul of 1st positions (9 of the 13 in fact) with two additional strong 2nds as well. Too many great swims to fit in here, but a particular mention to the swimmers with new PBs: Connor (backstroke), Dahlia and Matt (for fly) and last but not least well done to Gaby (freestyle) and Bethan (breaststroke), who not only swam up for the Open entries but also won their races! Congratulations to the other firsts in individual races: Connor, Matt, Dahlia and Rebecca.
Thank you to the many parents who filled roles on the night to help run the whole show. Thanks to Matt for coaching and swimming two maximum point races, as well as taking part in relays. Above all, thanks to the swimmers for fantastic swimming.
