Breaststroke2

On Saturday 25th June the swimmers took part in the Nottinghamshire Sport Centre League at Lammas Leisure Centre in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Only 3 teams swam in the Gala: Radford, Sutton (who happen to be the top 2 teams in the Division) and us Portland. Two teams apparently pulled out at last minute possibly due to inadequate numbers.

Stanley Toplass started the evening off well with a massive 4 second PB swimming up in the 15 and under 100 IM and later won the 13 and under IM and 50 Fly. After the 2nd event there was a slight technical hitch – one of the blocks came loose so we had to move lanes from lane 5 to lane 1; this had little effect on our swimmers. Overall 17 PBs were achieved on the night: Stanley Toplass, Judd Tucker, Ava Tucker, Tarun Mistry, Harrison Morroll and Angelina Giannino all had 2 and Maddie Poon, Beth Taylor, Briony O’Keeffe, Bethan Simmons and Lucian Munro had one.

Emma Horne had a great swim in her 100m Breaststroke. Can’t believe it was her last Gala for Portland. Her contribution to the Club over the years has been fantastic.

Beatrice Munro had some brilliant swims on the night, came 2nd in all 3 of her individual races and managed to achieve a Midland time in 100m Fly at the first time swimming it! Amazing Bea WELL DONE.

Angelina Giannino achieved 2 great PBs and swam in the gala even though she had hurt her leg and couldn’t do PE all week. What commitment!!!

Lucian Munro swam really well; every time I looked up he was swimming another event. He achieved a PB in 100m freestyle by a massive 5 seconds.

Other big PBs on the night were Judd with 4.5 seconds in 50 back & 8.5s in 50 fly! Harrison with 6s in 50 backstroke & 8s in 50 freestyle! Bethan 6s in 100 freestyle!

Freya Teweleit swam a strong 100m backstroke. Solid swims too from Edward Roberts, Connor Cruickshank and Rebecca Horne.

It was a very small team of swimmers, some with many swims. Thank you to our older swimmers who turned out to compete for the Club following on from some gruelling GCSE, AS and A Level exams and consequently much reduced training.

Portland came 3rd overall but all the swimmers swam incredibly well.

COME ON PORTLAND!!!
