Butterfly capSpirits were high and the swimmers were fast in Round 4 of the Sport Centre League Gala, on Saturday September 17. Personal Bests were achieved in no less than 18 races, which means that for every TWO swimmers racing, ONE earned a personal best!

This tremendous effort is a tribute to the diligence and hard work of the coaches poolside and the commitment of all swimmers and parents alike. So a huge THANK YOU to all who make this achievement possible, from the swimmers themselves, to the parent drivers, to the team helpers on the night.

The gala was kicked off by the very experienced Stanley Toplass, who swam up a category in the 15 and under boys individual medley, achieving a tremendous PB, in the first of his 6 races of the evening. He also achieved a PB in the 15/u 100m boys breaststroke.

The second and third races also saw PBs, with both Bethan Simmons and Luke Hastings swimming hard in the 15/u girls IM and the 13/u 100m boys breaststroke. They both achieved good results in their later races too.

Freya Teweleit also achieved a PB in her girls 13/u 100m freestyle race, motivating her training mate and age competitor Briony O’Keeffe to achieve a PB in the girls 13/u 100m breaststroke. Briony later went on to achieve another PB in her 13/u IM. Dominique Browne-Gallina also swam well in the 13/u 50m butterfly as well as swimming the fly in the girls 4 x 25 Medley Relay.

Jonny Higham helped out the club by winning two out of his four individual open races, earning himself a PB and a first place finish in the boys 100m open IM along the way. Fantastic results! Well done.

Mai Drury also provided the club with a win, in the 11/u girls 50m freestyle race and she also achieved a PB in the 11/u 50m butterfly.

Ava Tucker, Mai’s age competitor, swam very well too, with PBs in both of her individual races, the 11/u 50m girls backstroke and the 11/u 50m breaststroke.

On the boys’ side of the 11/u category, Judd Tucker matched his sister’s effort by earning a PB in the 11/u 50m backstroke. Will Inman achieved a New Time in his 11/u 50m freestyle race and Efan Drury earned a PB in the 11/u boys 50m butterfly. Harrison Morroll helped out in the 11/u category as well, swimming the 11/u 50m breaststroke and the 11/13 4 x 25 Medley Relay and the fun finale, Cannon Relay.

Lucian Munro, Raj Malhi and Luke Hastings made up the 13/u boys team. Lucian swam PBs in both the 13/u 100m IM and the 13/u 100m freestyle, while Raj put in good effort in both the 13/u 50m butterfly and the 13/u 100m breaststroke races.

For the older swimmers, in the girls’ category, Lucy Toplass, Bethan Simmons and Beatrice Munro all swam hard and well. Lucy took on board two of the longer races, swimming both the 100m backstroke and the 100m freestyle races, as well as helping in the 4 x 25 Medley Relay and the Cannon Relay.

The gala fun just keeps happening though, with another gala 7 days later, so if you would like to join in on all of this fun, team spirit and achievement, let the coaches know that you are keen and willing and you’ll have made a great, horizon expanding decision! The Club thrives on the abilities of all of its swimmers, no matter what stage of development so please do get involved in the galas. In the meanwhile a big THANK YOU goes out again, to all of the swimmers, coaches and helpers for enabling a good team performance on this night.
