In this last leg of the JC Dobb Autumn Series at Hucknall Leisure Centre many of our younger and/or newer swimmers gained valuable competitive experience against tough opposition who had clearly turned up to win a trophy!
Not only that but they posted 8 PBs (Will Cranton, 50m breaststroke; Michael Tones, 50m breaststroke; Connor Cruickshank, 50m freestyle & 50m backstroke; Mia Cunnison, 50m backstroke; Ella Trott, 25m butterfly; Ben Brown, 25m butterfly; Grace Rigby, 50m freestyle) and 2 new times (Ella Trott, 25m freestyle; Luke Hastings, 25m freestyle).
Well done to all our swimmers for some very brave swims in events outside their comfort zone and to those of you who swam up into older age groups – some of our relay teams only had one swimmer who was of the age! Oh and ‘congratulations’ to Rebecca Phillips (50m freestyle), Andrew de Boer (50m butterfly), Hannah Mackay (50m freestyle) and the 14/u medley relay team for Speeding Tickets!
Ava for her first gala for Portland – she did herself and the Club proud, we hope this was the first of many.
Euan for being a cool customer and leaving it until the last moment to put on his goggles – if only Lane End had stayed as cool!
Oscar for laughing all the way to the end of his relay leg.
Ella for making Oscar laugh – and for not disappearing to the toilet just before her swim!
Lucy and Stanley for gritting their teeth over a gruelling 50m fly.
Ben for taking a last minute change of plan in his stride, stepping up to the mark in the 25m fly AND posting a PB!
Lewis for giving his all in the tough fly leg of the medley relay.
Cecily and Phoebe for endless enthusiasm and fantastic mutual support.
Michael and Connor for PBs yet again!
Swim of the night was Andrew’s 50m breaststroke, gaining Portland’s only 1st place of the evening.
Once again, well done to the entire team – you did yourselves and your Club proud on what turned out to be a very challenging evening. Keep up the good work in the New Year!
Thanks as always to our ‘Gamesmakers’.
