We were promised a great event – and we got one! What a fantastic evening of swimming, supporting, fun and games. Personal Bests (PBs), New Times (NT) and records broken plus, to round everything off, a highly competitive Coaches’ Cannon that saw fortunes changing throughout and some great comebacks. Ultimately, though, it was the boss’s Daggertooth Pike Congers that took the glory!
Too many special mentions but a big well done to every one of the 61 swimmers who took part. We saw some brave efforts from swimmers trying the 200m freestyle for the first time, some hard fought contests between club rivals and, most important of all, fabulous sportsmanship.
Well done also to supporters for creating a lively atmosphere – how good to see such a crowd making their way into the pool and then cheering on from poolside.
Finally, huge thanks to Guy and Dom and all the ‘backroom staff’ for organising a smooth-running event. It was really nice to see new faces helping out and we hope we see you again soon.
So, serious business done, it was time to party and wow! How we were in for a big treat! I don’t think anyone quite expected what awaited us at the Trent Youth Centre and another huge thank you to Pest Express and Machin & Toplass for their generosity in sponsorship that enabled us to have such a treat. However, big thanks also to Tony and the Simmons family for suggesting it in the first place and being such a help on the night with directions, climbing – and hoovering!!
There was hardly time for the presentations as there were too many activities to fit in but it was clear how proud our Head coach was of all of our swimmers and what they have achieved over the last year.
The biggest highlight of an evening full of highlights was to see our swimmers, old and young, having a great evening together – once again demonstrating why Portland is the club it is.
